Our Story

Built for People Who Want to
Type Better, Think Smarter

TypeThrive started with a simple observation: most typing tools are boring, static, and give you almost no insight into why you're not improving. We set out to build something better — a living, competitive, data-driven platform that makes getting faster genuinely fun.

Our Mission

TypeThrive's mission is to make high-quality typing education and digital literacy accessible to everyone — from students learning to type for the first time, to professionals who want to reclaim the hours they lose each week to slow typing.

Typing is the most foundational digital skill in the modern world. Every email, report, message, and line of code flows through your fingers. Yet most people never receive formal instruction beyond hunt-and-peck as children. Most of us were never really taught to type, so we end up working well below the speed we're capable of.

We believe improving your typing speed isn't just about productivity — it's about reducing cognitive load, improving your ability to express ideas at the pace you think them, and building the kind of computer confidence that translates into every area of modern work and life.

What We Believe

Our core values shape every feature we build, every lesson we write, and every race we host.

Speed Without Sacrifice

We believe that typing speed and accuracy go hand in hand. Our platform is built to develop both simultaneously, using practice techniques designed to help you raise your speed steadily, without giving up accuracy along the way.

Learning Through Practice

Research consistently shows that deliberate, consistent practice is the most effective path to mastery. TypeThrive structures your practice sessions with intention — every drill, test, and race is designed to target specific skill gaps.

Community at the Core

Typing alone is fine. Typing with a whole community cheering you on is electric. Our multiplayer races and global leaderboards transform a solo skill into a shared experience that keeps you coming back.

Privacy First

We never sell your data. Your typing history, personal records, and account information are yours. We collect only what we need to deliver a great product and improve our platform over time.

Everything You Need to Improve

TypeThrive isn't a single tool — it's a complete typing improvement ecosystem.

Real-Time Multiplayer Races

Compete head-to-head with typists from around the world in live races. Watch your car accelerate as your accuracy climbs. Feel the rush of overtaking another player in the final stretch. TypeThrive's multiplayer mode turns practice into competition — and competition into rapid improvement.

Detailed Progress Analytics

Every test you take feeds into your personal analytics dashboard. Track your WPM over time, identify which keys slow you down, see your accuracy trends by day and week, and understand exactly where to focus your next practice session. No more guessing — just data-driven improvement.

Precision Typing Tests

Pick a 15, 30, 60 or 120-second test, and you'll see your speed and accuracy the moment you finish. It's a quick, honest read on where you are today and how far you've come.

Structured Lesson Curriculum

Whether you're learning the home row keys for the first time or refining your technique at 100+ WPM, our curated lesson library guides your journey. Lessons cover finger placement, posture, common word patterns, number and symbol mastery, and advanced speed techniques.

Digital Citizenship Education

TypeThrive goes beyond typing speed. Our Digital Citizenship curriculum teaches students and professionals how to be responsible, informed, and effective participants in the digital world — covering online safety, privacy, cybersecurity, AI literacy, and more.

Certificates & Achievements

Earn verifiable typing certificates that you can share on LinkedIn, add to your resume, or simply display with pride. Milestone achievements unlock as you reach new WPM plateaus, complete lesson modules, and rise through the leaderboard ranks.

Why TypeThrive Exists

TypeThrive was founded by Sidney Pravato with one kind of person in mind: someone who's ready to build something new for themselves. Maybe that's your first job, or a better one. Maybe it's a remote career, or an online business you're growing as a creator. Wherever you're headed, you'll get there through a keyboard.

We don't see typing as a leftover from a high-school class. It's how the modern world works. Every application you send, every message, script, post and line of code starts with your fingers on the keys. So we built TypeThrive to help you get faster, more accurate and more confident, and then to help you put that skill to work in a job, a portfolio or a business of your own.

We believe progress should be something you can see, not something you have to guess at, and that practice should feel more like play than homework. We also believe in being straight with you. What's free here stays free, and when something costs money, we'll tell you exactly what it costs.

Every keystroke moves you forward. Let's move forward together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know about TypeThrive.

Is TypeThrive free to use?

Yes, and a lot of it. You can take as many typing tests as you like, play all 10 of our retro typing games, work through all 8 Beginner typing lessons, and start the first 5 Digital Citizenship modules, all for free. When you're ready to go further, our paid courses come with a completion certificate, and the Premium and Career Builder plans and the full Digital Citizenship course open up everything else.

How long does it take to improve typing speed?

Most users see measurable improvement within 2–3 weeks of consistent daily practice (15–30 minutes per day). Significant speed gains — often 20–40 WPM improvements — typically occur within 2–3 months. The key factors are consistency, proper technique, and targeted practice on your specific weak spots.

What is a good typing speed?

The average typist types around 40–60 WPM. Professional typists and office workers typically aim for 65–75 WPM. Power users and competitive typists often reach 100+ WPM. TypeThrive helps you set a personalized target based on your goals and current level.

Can TypeThrive help students?

Absolutely. TypeThrive was built with students in mind. Our Digital Citizenship course talks about the things students actually face online, like safety, privacy, misinformation and AI, and teachers can assign the free modules right in Google Classroom.

What makes TypeThrive different from other typing websites?

TypeThrive combines competitive multiplayer racing, data-driven analytics, a full educational curriculum, and Digital Citizenship lessons — all in a single platform. Unlike basic typing tools that only measure WPM, TypeThrive is a complete learning ecosystem designed for long-term skill development.

Does TypeThrive work on mobile devices?

TypeThrive is optimized for desktop and laptop use, since typing practice requires a physical keyboard. However, our lessons, progress dashboards, and educational content are accessible on mobile devices for reading and review.
